Aug. 13th, 2008 @ 05:08 am For those of you keeping score at home...
New tires on all four corners Monday -- my first chance to buy four at once for the 911. In the end I wasn't tempted to switch to the Michelin PS2s. Stayed with the Pirelli P-Zero Rossos that I've always had on the car. I'm not unhappy with them. Here's the breakdown:

The first set of rears lasted 9,100 miles.
The second set of rears lasted 7,689 miles.
The third set of rears lasted 6,661 miles.

The first set of fronts lasted 14,000 miles.
The second set of fronts lasted 9,451 miles.

I didn't start tracking my car in earnest until 8k miles or so, and I believe that's the reason for the accelerated wear that I'm seeing. It's well worth the tire wear to experience the satisfaction and enjoyment of driving the car as it was built to be driven, though. Wouldn't change a thing. The Tire cost does make the track fees seem cheap, though.

As Petr pointed out, the faster rear tire wear is understandable since "all the power and most of the steering" is back there. :)

Aug. 7th, 2008 @ 07:21 pm Week Recaplet
I'm calling it a week tonight, and taking Friday off to go donate some tire tread to the folks at H2R. jstimson is in town and hasn't had a chance to drive either the 911 or Monica's CSP MX-5, so we figured that H2R would be a great place to spend the day.

In retaliation for ruining him for other cars for the rest of his life, he pretty much ruined the rest of my weekend by pointing me towards Fantastic Contraption. I'm looking at you, [info]stenz and [info]paradox0220, but really all of you will probably get sucked into this one. Massive fun. Play a few levels and once you think you've got it figured out then take a look at the player solutions in this thread.

BBQ tomorrow night at Salt Lick around 6:30 or so. If you're reading this you're invited -- bring beer and let me know so I can get a headcount.

Aug. 6th, 2008 @ 07:00 pm New Tires, Alignment
Vikra got new tires and an alignment today. The tires are Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec in 215/45ZR17. These are "Extreme Performance Summer" tires that have outtested my previous RE-01Rs (which I had in 235/40ZR17). I went for a tire width closer to the stock 205 as the wheels are only 17x7, and the 235 width was too much for them. The change in tire and size saved me $80 per tire, so $320. The Dunlops in 235/40R17 are $66 cheaper per tire, or $264 for all four. So far, I've only had the roughly 10 mile drive home on the tires, which is in no way enough to make any judgements.

The car got an alignment, as well. Settings:
Before:
         Left Right Total
